Unprepared Garden, 2014

Aluminumpanels, lamps, carpet, scaffold, wood, 1200 x 200 x 300 cm

Unprepared Garden is a site-specific installation in the garden of an electric power transformation substation in the city-centre of Cologne. It was exhibited as part of the ‘new talents-biennale cologne 2014’. The surroundings of the transformer substation are characterized by office complexes that are continuously in operation and are a part of and a consequence of the construction boom.
The installation consists of a corridor lined with typical office-ceiling panels. Lamps that shone continuously for the duration of the biennale were installed within the structure. The corridor is supported by scaffolding which in turn references the building boom.
It is an interior spaced placed with in an exterior environment: a visual cut and paste scene.
The sound of birds, the gurgling of water being pumped through a pond and the permanent hum of the distribution station accumulates in a surreal collage of sound and smell that pierces through the white paneled walls.
This installation symbolizes the practice of transgression in a materialized form. Experiencing what you cross and how you cross something is bound to the experience of transgression.
